Discussing CIPROMED & Circular Economy with companies located in Greece

On January 9th, Vasilis Daskalos, a representative of Duynie Group, visited the facilities of the Laboratory of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology at the University of Thessaly.

Duynie Group, is a company dedicated to the principles of the circular economy, and is at the forefront of innovative approaches to managing agricultural side-streams, including the use of insects for sustainable food and feed production. Vasilis was introduced to the emerging insect farming sector through the CIPROMED Project. During his visit, he engaged with our team to explore ways companies like Duynie can integrate the knowledge and data generated by CIPROMED into their operations at a local level.

During this productive meeting, Vasilis Daskalos, representing Duynie, joined the University of Thessaly team—Professor Christos Athanassiou, Christina Adamaki-Sotiraki, Georgia Baliota, and Sofronis Zafeiriadis—to highlight the critical importance of collaboration between research institutions and industry in advancing sustainable solutions for the management of agricultural by-products.

Discussions like this are essential at the local level, as they help raise awareness about the newly emerging insect farming sector within the Greek community. This innovative field holds significant potential for sustainable agricultural practices, yet it remains relatively unknown to many. By fostering dialogue between industry professionals and research institutions, we can bridge this knowledge gap, promote the benefits of insect farming, and encourage its adoption as a viable solution for circular economy practices in Greece.
