ICE 2024
Throwback to when Professor Christos Athanassiou (University of Thessaly, Greece) delivered a presentation at the XXVII International Congress of Entomology (ICE 2024), held in Kyoto, Japan.
His talk, titled “Utilization of Stored-Product Insects as Feed and Food through Circular Economy Practices,” took place at ‘’Pest Management’’ Symposioum on 29th of August and aligned closely with the goals of the CIPROMED project.
In his presentation, Professor Athanassiou explored how circular economy principles can be applied to transform insects such as the yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) into a valuable resource for both human and animal consumption. The talk highlighted advancements in converting agricultural and food waste into insect biomass, contributing to more efficient resource use and reducing environmental impact.
This dissemination event at ICE 2024 provided a global platform to share CIPROMED’s progress and engage with international experts working toward more sustainable and innovative solutions through entomology.
